We personally curate every trip down to the finest detail (and meal), and all of our trips are led by our team. This means you’ll get an experience that lives up to the hype by a team that is passionate about what we do. It also means we aren’t afraid to push boundaries that other companies can’t, making on-the-fly adjustments and getting off the familiar tourist track to make sure you have nothing less than a great trip.
A trip isn’t great if you’re not always thinking about your next meal. This is exactly how we design our itineraries – we find the best culinary experiences and meals and then place everything else around it. This means you get the best of everything: the sights and the bites. We can always guarantee that you won’t go hungry – or thirsty. Did we mention meals include beer?
No shopping. No gimmicky souvenir shops that pay guides commissions. No cheesy performances that attract droves of tourists. We travel with our guests like we travel by ourselves, which means we cut out the crap and provide a truly local and unique experience. We visit sights and attractions that are worth it, which doesn’t always mean you’ll find them in your guidebook.
Imagine discovering hidden caves in the countryside outside Xian for a night. Exploring the endless tea fields outside Chengdu for an afternoon. Getting access to invite-only wineries in deep Yunnan canyons. Or taking a 45 minute jeep ride over mountain passes to arrive in what’s known locally as “Heaven on Earth.” We make the extra effort to take you places that you won’t find on any other itineraries. At the end of the day, you’ll be posting Insta pics like no-one else ever has.
No need to endlessly scroll through lists of hotels. Stop trying to find random blogs that recommend the hole-in-the-wall restaurants. You don’t even need to listen to your friends that have already been. We take care of every detail, every meal, and every pillow. All you need to do is show up and we’ll take care of the rest.

“I took this trip immediately after Lost Plate’s other Yunnan adventure (Dali to Lijiang) and the two are very different, but both fabulous. Highlights included dinner at the winemaker’s house in Cizhong and of course Yubeng, which has views that simply cannot be beat. Even if you’re not a regular hiker (I’m not), consider doing the waterfall hike. When you add up the hotels and transport and tours and personal assistance (especially with those pesky Covid tests and health codes), never mind the unending food and drink, I can’t even believe what a value Lost Plate provides. Unless you are a fluent Chinese speaker, you’re not likely to have a more varied, fun, and delicious time in Tibetan Yunnan than by taking this tour.”

“This is my second multi-day tour with Lost Plate and I hope it won’t be my last. I saw all the top sights, ate like a queen, and kept my all-important health code green. The last bit might not be the most exciting part of travel but it is the most worrisome if not take care of. I know most people come to Xi’an to see the terracotta warriors and while they are spectacular, there’s so much more to Xi’an and on this tour you’ll get to experience it. The food can be the true highlight in Xi’an, at least when you’re with Lost Plate. It’s hard to choose a favorite meal but I think the evening and morning food tours of the Muslim quarter were my personal favorites. The best part of being with a group is that you can order (and taste) far more dishes than if you were on your own or with just one other person. Plus they’ve done the advance legwork to find you the best places to eat. Highest possible recommendation for anyone who wants the convenience of a tour/guide but an alternative to a big bus tour.”

I had already been on their evening food tours in Chengdu and Xi’an, and these longer trips had come highly recommended by a friend. It absolutely lived up to her hype. This is an off-the-tourist-trail adventure for sure, which might not be for everyone, but was exactly what I was looking for. The food was always delicious and the travel and accommodations were as good as the areas allowed. I would strongly recommend Lost Plate for an uncommon adventure!

An Amazing 4 Days in Sichuan
“Just go. I mean, at a minimum you should go on the evening food tour but if you have the time to spend four days in Sichuan, I can’t imagine how you could spend your time better than to put yourself in Lost Plate’s hands for the duration. Every sightseeing activity was worthwhile, every meal was delicious and many of them were at places you’d be hard pressed to find on your own unless you’re traveling with a Chengdu native. You don’t have to worry about a thing-they help you with all the details, including abiding by all of China’s travel regulations. You can just sit back and enjoy the ride and make new friends in a small group of fellow-travelers. This is my first multi-day trip with Lost Plate (I did an evening tour with them in Xi’an) but I don’t plan for it to be my last.”

Overall, something I loved about this trip was how relaxed it was. You didn’t feel you were being rushed from place to place, and there was enough downtime built in that you could chill out. If you wanted to explore, you could go ahead. If you needed some relaxation time in your room, that was fine too. As a food tour primarily, I can say we were not at all disappointed!
