Hotel Pick-up

Hotel pick-up will be provided for guests staying within Xian’s third ring road. Exact pick-up times will vary and be communicated 24 hours before your tour starts.

See the Legendary Terracotta Warriors

Explore all three excavation pits, where over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, and 670 horses were hand-crafted by 700,000 workers. This vast underground army was created to protect China’s first emperor in the afterlife, then buried and forgotten for centuries. Even today, it is only partially uncovered.

Duration: approx 2 hours

Feast on Rural Shaanxi Comfort Food

Sit down to a spread of hearty dishes from rural Shaanxi you won’t find in the city. The menu includes Grandma’s Fried Pancake with smoky chili paste, steamed pork belly coated in toasted rice flour, buckwheat noodles once reserved for emperors, and Jiangshui Yuyu – a classic dish of chewy noodle bites in a tangy broth.

Explore Xi’an’s Ancient City Wall

Xi’an’s Ancient City Wall is one of the oldest and most complete military defenses in the world, built wider than it is tall and strong enough to survive centuries of history. Spend time walking (or optionally biking) along the top, with views of moats, archer towers, and the city it was built to protect.

Duration: approx 1 hour

Taste Our Top-Rated Evening Food Tour by Tuktuk

Hop into tuktuks and explore hidden corners of the Muslim Quarter for Xian’s most iconic eats: hand-pulled biangbiang noodles drenched in chili oil, BBQ skewers grilled to perfection, soup-filled dumplings with spices from the ancient Silk Road, and gourd chicken – a centuries-old specialty.

Duration: 3.5 hours

Local Craft Beer

The tour will end at a local brewery tucked inside Xian’s city walls – the perfect finish to a full day of history, culture, and good eats.

Xian: Where History and Flavor Collide.

This city isn’t just China’s ancient capital. It’s where empires began, armies were buried, and the Silk Road took its first steps.

From countryside kitchens serving dishes passed down from generations to hidden alleyways sizzling with late-night skewers, this is Xian’s only full-day tour that includes a deep-dive into authentic local cuisine.

In addition to trying some of the best eats in the neighborhood, you’ll also have the chance to learn about the history of this community and get to meet some of the people who make the best biang biang noodles (so named for the loud way they slam onto the table) and Eight Treasures congee, which was a staple of travelers along the Silk Road thanks to its easy-to-haul ingredients like nuts, spices and seeds.

All dietary requests must be communicated at the time of booking. When booking online, you will have the opportunity to let us know if you have any dietary requirements or special requests. Please use the following information to understand if this tour is right for you.

This tour is not recommended for vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free travelers. Our eateries are small, family run, and very specialized, so we do our best but on this tour there just aren’t a lot of substitutes. Travelers that don’t eat meat simply won’t have items to eat at some stops.

This tour cannot accommodate gluten-free travelers. Wheat products are featured at every stop, in sauces like soy sauce and in tour highlights like noodles and doughs. There are no substitutes or alternatives available.

This tour is no-pork friendly and features a lot of mutton and beef. Three out of four evening tour stops are halal restaurants.

This tour also cannot accommodate severe allergies as we do not have control over the preparation for your food. Travelers that don’t eat nuts are welcome, but kitchens do use nuts and cross-contamination is possible.

If you have any questions not answered here, please contact us prior to booking.

Transportation throughout the day (including hotel pick-up, the 1.5 hour drive to the Terracotta Warriors, and the 1.5 hour drive back to Xian and the city wall) will be done by private van transportation. Travel is done via expressway and there are no small, curvy roads.

Our evening food tour will be conducted by private tuktuk. This is the best way to get around the Muslim Quarter’s narrow streets and alleys. Please keep in mind that tuktuks are open-air vehicles and are not climate controlled.

You’ll spend 2-3 hours on your feet while visiting the Terracotta Warriors, and another 1 hour on your feet at the ancient city wall. You should expect an uneven/cobblestone surface on the city wall, plus some stair climbing. You should also be prepared to deal with whatever the weather throws at us – whether it’s hot sunshine, a chilly downpour (maybe even snow in the winter), or anything in between.

There is no dress code for any of the attractions that we visit during this tour.

We recommend dressing for the weather and always have layers for varying conditions throughout the day. Comfortable, close-toed footwear that you are used to wearing all day is also important.

All of our tours are rain-or-shine, so we suggest you dress for the weather. In rare cases of extreme weather, your guide will cancel the tour and provide a full refund.

Xian experiences hot sunshine in summer, below-freezing temperatures in winter, and rain/snow showers that are possible any time of year.

We’re happy to accommodate private tour requests. Please contact us to arrange this, as it is based on availability.

Our child pricing is valid for ages 4 through 15. Children ages 3 and under are free.

We welcome all travelers, but ask that guests use their own judgement to determine whether this tour is appropriate without impacting the experience of other guests. We do not recommend this tour for anyone who is unable to be on their feet for 2-3 hours at a time (including on uneven surfaces and climbing stairs), or requires mobility assistance such as a wheelchair or walker.

The Terracotta Warrior site is only partially wheelchair accessible. Some areas will be challenging due to sloped and uneven surfaces. Guests using wheelchairs must be accompanied by someone who can provide personal assistance throughout the tour. The City Wall is not wheelchair accessible as it requires climbing stairs.

Booking a private tour is always an option. This gives you some added flexibility during the itinerary to make sure you have extra time when needed during the day.

A photo of your passport details page will be collected prior to your tour. This is required when purchasing entrance tickets to the Terracotta Warriors and City Wall. Ticketing rules at our destinations are strict, so pre-purchased tickets ensure a smooth entry without issues.

You will also need to bring your passport with you on the day of the tour.

Bookings canceled 48 hours or more before your tour are fully refundable (100% refund). Bookings canceled within 48 hours notice are not refundable. Tours cannot be rescheduled with less than 48 hours notice.
