Beijing has more people than Ireland, Denmark, and Greece, combined. The term “meal options” here means something else entirely.
First a provincial backwater, then a traveller’s junction between Manchuria and Mongolia before becoming the on-and-off capital of China for centuries, Beijing’s stasis amidst the movement of peoples and powers has left the most unique culinary legacy few other ancient cities could boast.

By sharing the living history of cuisine by the hands that make it, we're changing the way people think about food and its role in the universe.
Only guides from each city can give you a true taste of the area in food and culture, all trained by our founders to ensure a perfect experience. We also work with the community through local producers and partners to ensure you’re getting a real local taste of what each community can do.
We are not a tasting tour, if you leave hungry or thirsty, we aren’t doing our jobs. Most of our tours feature unlimited food and drinks (beer too!) The best part? You won’t have to worry about what to order or how to communicate with the owners at each stop. Everything we eat is tried and tested, plus you’ll see how it’s made and learn about the families who make it.
The local culinary scene in every city is defined by food and drinks, so we make sure you experience it all! Our evening tours include (unlimited) alcoholic beverages along the way, and at least one stop to sink a glass (or few) of locally produced craft beer. All your bases are covered with us.
We visit local neighborhoods where real locals live and eat. You aren’t going to find any other tourists here, or run into other tour groups. Our restaurants are local legends, family-owned and often specialize in only one dish, which means the quality is high and the flavor is even better. These places wouldn’t survive without regulars, that’s how you know it’s good.

“This was a great experience and a must do if you are in Beijing. Audrey our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. She took us to places we would never know about or go to. It was original authentic Beijing food. All of the food was exceptional and delicious. We learned lots of history from Audrey about origins of the food and the city. We have taken four other Lost Plate tours In China and all have been wonderful.”
“I can’t recommend this tour highly enough. It’s an amazing experience to zip around the narrow and bustling hutong in a tuk-tuk, going to gorgeous little restaurants that we would never have found otherwise and sampling some quintessential Beijing dishes. Our guide Evon was absolutely brilliant – we loved it so much we did the one in Xi’an too (also great).”
“Best tour! Our tour guide did a great job of explaining the area and restaurants we stopped at. This tour does a really good job of bringing the group together which I really appreciated as a solo traveler! Some of the people in my group were expats who were doing this tour for a second time. Definitely recommend.”
“The knowledge of the guide, the chatty and fun atmosphere in the group and of course the memorable dishes made this a one of a kind experience. I liked it so much that I ended up booking the Beijing Breakfast Tour and Flavors of China tour as well. You can tell the stops are selected with care and are definitely not commercial or touristy. Some of the best places were located in the deepest corners of the hutongs and are impossible to find on your own. We had amazing noodles, very tasty bbq dishes, pancakes of dreams a fried bun that was so good I still talk about it.”
“What can I say? It was a fantastic day out with my friends and fiancé and we will have those pictures forever now. We were going to pay for a photographer before we left Beijing but the quality of the tour means we didn’t need to. The tour guide (Ruixi) was awesome! She spoke perfect English and had a great sense of humour. Spending 5 hours taking pictures of others must of been hard work but she has so much energy. All I can say is if you want to have an awesome experience of seeing the old and new of Beijing and cherish the memories for a lifetime, this is the tour for you.”
“What a fun afternoon!! I did this tour together with my husband and friends and we had an amazing time! I have been on multiple tours with Lost Plate and it’s always a great experience. Our guide was knowledgable and took us to places we hadn’t been yet (I’ve been in BJ for 7 years). Ruixi took the time to take wonderful photos and really knew how to get the best shots. Definitely recommend this tour if you want to see a combination of old and new Beijing!”
“I was able to enjoy 4 different types of delicious food styles from four different restaurants. Each having unique and authentic dishes. The food was fantastic at each location. Our Food tour guide, Evon, was able to make the experience extra special by giving us some background story behind every dish that we ate. I love the history behind it. I definitely recommend this tour and Evon as your guide. You’ll enjoy it a lot. Don’t miss out on the fun and food!”
“This was one of the highlights of my stay. If you like to try original Chinese food, this is absolutely worth a try. 4 different Chinese cuisines in four different restaurants. I recommend to not eat too much at the first two, so you can at least have a bit more at the last 2 restaurants. Also the guide was very nice and explained a lot about Chinese food!
“We are return customers to Lost Plate tours! Walk through a Hutong and witness Beijingers begin their morning. We stopped at many diverse family run breakfast locations. One became our favorite for the rest of our time in Beijing. We no longer ate Western Food for breakfast after this experience. The guides are knowledgeable and well rounded people. A joy to get to meet them. Off the Beaten Path. Authentic. Culture. Fun. Educational. Good for all ages. Highlight of our trip.”
“Great way to start our trip in Beijing. We travelled with my parents and 4 children aged 4-15. All were very adventurous with trying the food and were amazed by the delicious things they tried. Our guide Kelly was so knowledgeable and kept the kids interested too.”
