Day by Day Itinerary

01 Roast Lamb Feast

Arrival & Check-In: Airport pick-up is included from Yinchuan’s Hedong Airport (INC).

Dinner: Kick off the evening with a roast lamb feast paired with wines from Sweet Dew, a winery run by Ningxia’s only millennial winemaker, who does it all: manages the vineyard, designs the labels, and even packs and shipping every bottle by hand.

Silver Heights: Visit one of China’s most internationally acclaimed wineries, led by Bordeaux-trained Emma Gao – a true pioneer of Chinese fine wine. Emma has earned global recognition for her elegant wines, first planted by her father in 1997.

Lunch: Enjoy a selection of home-style dishes including wild veggies and stew.

Mountain Wave: Ran by a couple who studied winemaking overseas, they took a big bet by planting “less popular” grape varieties when they started in 2015 (Malbec, Marselan, and Pinot Noir). Come find out how their bet has paid off.

Domaine Charme: This architect-owned winery is nestled beneath a mountain peak shaped like a Buddha’s face. Every detail is intentional – from the “Pyramid of Charme,” aligned with the meridian to channel energy between heaven and earth, to a wine cellar designed for natural airflow. Their organically cultivated, gravity-brewed wines are just as unique as the place itself.

Legacy Peak: This family-run boutique winery cultivates 9 hectares of hand-planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. Known for its sustainable practices and meticulous vineyard care, it has earned a reputation as one of China’s most exciting and promising wineries.

Dinner: Enjoy another local specialty, lamb hotpot prepared with a special soup made of local herbs and red wine!

Xiban Winery:
Visit this boutique winery in Qingtongxia, where founder Jin Jiarui transformed his passion for European wine into a vision for world-class Chinese bottles. Explore their modern facilities and underground oak barrel cellar while tasting their expressive Chardonnay, Marselan, and award-winning Tempranillo.

Xige Estate Wine Tasting & Lunch: As the region’s largest producer of quality wine with 1,300 hectares, they offer a wide range of varietals – from Cabernet Sauvignon to Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. We’ll tour their state-of-the-art facilities, taste their wines, and enjoy lunch at their organic in-house restaurant.

Chateau Huahao: Led by a former mayor with a passion for great wine, this winery is named for the spirit of China (Hua) and the legacy of Ningxia’s Xixia dynasty (Hao). Among their lineup, we’ll try Liumugao, their signature wine named after the highest peak in the region.

Airport Transfer: Drop-off is included to Yangshuo’s INC airport.

Where desert, mountains & wine meet.

Located between the Helan Mountains and the Tengger Desert, Ningxia’s unique climate, dry conditions, and mineral-rich soils create ideal conditions for grape growing.

Home to more than 200 wineries, the region is also shaped by generations of local culture, including the Hui Muslim community and traditional northwest Chinese cuisine. Many vineyards still rely on hands-on farming, including burying vines underground each winter to survive the region’s freezing temperatures. Here, every bottle tells a story of resilience, innovation, and a new chapter in China’s wine industry.

For 11 years, over 75,000 guests have eaten and explored with our team of knowledgeable English-speaking guides, supporting local vendors along the way.

Let us give you exclusive access to Ningxia’s wine country.

Common Questions

Can I book a private version?

Yes, private departures can be arranged for individuals, families, or groups seeking a more personalized experience. We can offer customizations around timing and duration while preserving our thoughtfully designed routes and trusted wineries.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Meats (mostly lamb) and carbs (mostly wheat noodles) are standard in this region. There’s always going to be a lot of meat on the table, but as long as you are ok with that there will be some alternatives for those that don’t eat meat. Please keep in mind that vegetarian dishes will be heavy on the starches (like potatoes and noodles). We are unable to fully accommodate vegan or gluten-free diets, or those with severe allergies/intollerances.

Can I join as a solo traveler?

Yes, our join-in group departures are perfect for solo travelers. A single occupancy surcharge of $150 USD will apply, as hotel rates are based on double occupancy. Feel free to contact us if you’d like to check which dates have a confirmed departure.

Do the join-in group departures have a minimum size?

Yes, and we have a minimum guarantee. If the minimum group size isn't met (4 people), your deposit is fully refunded or you can convert to a private trip for an additional fee.

What is not included in the price of the trip?

Your flights to and from Yangshuo are not included, as well as any shopping and other personal expenses or items not mentioned in our itinerary.

What about visas, packing lists, and travel preparation?

After signing up, you’ll receive our China Travel Guide PDF with visa guidance, packing tips, and other practical info. Or, get our travel guide now!

Is this trip suitable for children or non-drinkers?

Children and teens under 21 are not recommended on this trip. Booking a private trip is suggested for families with children under 21, or those wanting additional flexibility or a slower pace.

Can I extend my trip beyond Yangshuo?

Yes, we can help you extend your hotel stay and/or add additional destinations throughout China, creating a seamless itinerary tailored to your schedule and travel style.

How much will I get to drink?

You’ll try 2-4 wines at each the 7 wineries we visit, which are all included in the price of the tour. Additionally, each dinner features wines from other wineries that we’re unable to visit during the trip. In short, it’s a lot.

What makes this different from other Yanshuo winery tours?

We’re embarrassed to share how many Ningxia wineries we’ve visited, but we’re confident we’ve chosen the best of the best for you. We’ve also spent the time to build relationships with each winery, giving us unique access to facilities that are closed to the public and winemaker meet-and-greets. Most importantly, all wine tastings and meals are included in the price of the tour.
