Chongqing Evening Food Tour: Start your journey through Chongqing’s flavors with a local food crawl through hidden neighborhood restaurants. Try pea & minced pork noodles, traditional dishes served with tofu, Jianghu cuisine hidden in an apartment building, and finish with a uniquely Chongqing dessert: chili oil ice cream.

Walking Tour Through China’s Mountain City: Walk through the layered streets of Chongqing and see why locals call it the Mountain City. Explore elevated roads, hillside neighborhoods, historic alleys, and river viewpoints while learning how geography, trade, and dock culture shaped the city.

Local Lunch: Sit down at a hidden neighborhood restaurant for Jianghu cuisine, a bold style of cooking born from Chongqing’s working communities. Share generous plates like spicy chicken and shrimp & eggplant pancakes, and learn why locals consider this rustic food one of the best reflections of the city’s personality.

Hotpot Museum + DIY Hotpot Base Experience: Uncover the story behind Chongqing’s most famous dish, from its origins as a simple dock-worker meal along the Yangtze River to its place as one of China’s most iconic foods. Create your own hotpot base during a hands-on workshop before seeing how this local tradition comes together.

A Mountain City Built on Rivers and Flavor.

Chongqing’s story begins where the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers meet. For centuries, dock-workers, traders, and boatmen passed through this important river port, creating a food culture built around bold flavors, shared meals, and dishes that could fuel long days of work.

From spicy hotpot to the creation of Jianghu cuisine, many of Chongqing’s most famous foods reflect the city’s hardworking spirit. Add in its wartime history, underground air raid shelters, and dramatic mountain landscape, and you get one of China’s most fascinating cities to explore.

For 11 years, over 75,000 guests have eaten and explored with our team of knowledgeable English-speaking guides, supporting local vendors along the way.

Let us show the real Chongqing through a local lens.

Is this the right trip if it's my first time to Chongqing?

Yes. This itinerary brings together the places that define a first-time visit, from the city’s layered streets and river viewpoints to hotpot, local Jianghu cuisine, traditional breakfast, and the everyday foods Chongqing people actually grow up eating.

What makes this different from other Chongqing tours?

Many Chongqing itineraries focus on taking photos at over-crowded viewpoints. This trip focuses on understanding why the city became what it is. You’ll trace Chongqing’s history from its origins as a major Yangtze River port where dock workers shaped the city’s food culture, to its role as China’s wartime capital, while tasting the dishes that still carry those stories today (plus our favorite views of the city).
