Snow, a Chinese beer, is the most popular brand of beer in the world, putting out 2x much as Budweiser, 3x as much as Heineken, and 4x as much as Corona every year. Not bad for a beer that’s only sold in China.
As China’s appetite for beer rears its foamy head, the craft beer revolution has not missed Beijing. Initially an expatriate-niche, Beijing’s craft beer scene has grown beyond the imagination of the expected. Whether you’re fluent in brewmaster jargon, or if the only thing you know about beer is that it’s damn delicious – this tour has something for everyone.
Learn not only about the craftsmanship of craft beer but also how it’s been adopted into a 9000-year-old drinking culture across 4 different breweries. And between each one, sip on obligatory roadies – it is a night out in Bejing after all. Who says learning can’t be fun?
Hop in our van and relax with a beer as we take you to the bustling modern area of Beijing to find 4 of Beijing’s best craft breweries.
Explore Beijing’s up-and-coming craft beer scene and see how it’s evolved from a niche expat hangout to the new cool in China's capital.
Visit JingA, one of Beijing's first breweries, to see how local flavors are incorporated into China’s craft beer scene.
Finish with a flight at Arrow Factory Brewing nestled in Beijing’s diplomat district with rooftop views.
A Boozy Beijing Brewery Tour
It’s one thing to know that Beijing has a craft beer scene and quite another thing to navigate it. Lost Plate’s brewery tour not only includes a van to take you from place to place and a full cooler of beers to keep you going between bars, but the expertise of the tour leaders can’t be ignored. Any idiot can go to a bar and drink beer, but part of Lost Plate’s charm is that you’re learning about the bars, the beers, and the people behind it all.
Explore Beijing's Local Microbrews
This new, beer-focused tour began in April and is composed of a trip to three or four of the city’s best and most popular taprooms and brewpubs, providing guests a chance to taste over 10 different varieties of beer in a well-curated and enlightening pub crawl. The choices are carefully considered and, on our tour, happened to feature my go-to watering holes in town. That being said, I still learned a lot of from the knowledgeable and affable guides on hand.
“I spent the most incredible evening in Beijing taking the Lost Plate Craft Beer Tour. Whether you are a first time visitor or a long time resident, long time craft beer enthusiast or you don’t even understand what craft beer is, this tour has something to offer you. Each brewer offers something unique and enough variety to please every palate and taste. The guides know their way though small winding streets full of local culture. Believe me, for the price it is the best night out you can experience, a real value. I plan on calling Lost Plate and booking every time I get a chance to have a night in Beijing.”
“The Beijing Craft Beer Tour was hands down THE best experience for me! The beer was spectacular and the breweries in this tour were beyond words. Places I would never know if it wasn’t for this tour. Additionally, our guide, Nicole was incredibly helpful, considerate and knowledgeable about everything during this tour. I would definitely recommend this tour…absolutely amazing!”
We are not a tasting tour, you will drink at least one pint at each of our four stops. We recommend that you eat before the tour begins to line your stomach, but food can also be purchased at most of our stops. Some light snacks will be provided throughout the tour.
This tour is designed for beer lovers, so if you can’t drink beer we do not recommend this tour. Gluten-free beer is not available at most breweries in Beijing.
This tour is primarily van serviced, but there is some walking involved where breweries are inaccessible by the van. Total walking distance is about 15 minutes throughout the entire duration of the tour.
This tour is adults-only. Legal drinking age in China is 18 years of age.
The tour starts at 6pm at Tuanjiehu subway station which services subway line 10. You’ll get the exact address, directions, and transportation details immediately after booking.
The tour ends a 15 minute walk away from Dongzhimen subway station, which services line 2. Your guide will point you in the right direction for wherever you need to go next, or you are welcome to stay at the last brewery as long as you like!
Our minimum is 2 and maximum is 10. There’s no flag to follow, or megaphone, or tacky uniforms. It’s small enough to be intimate, but big enough to have some fun with your fellow beer drinkers. You’ll get plenty of face-time with the experts. Bottom line is, you’ll follow the guide through a super-local experience and make friends along the way.
This tour lasts about 3.5 hours, but this can vary depending on the size of the group and how much fun they are having at each brewery. Some guests like to stay at the final brewery for an extra drink (or few) as well.
If you have any concerns or needs about the end time, don’t fret, just let us know if you are worried about time and we’ll let you know what we can do.
