Watch: Market Day at Dali’s San Yue Jie Street in Yunnan, China

Watch Our Video About a Day at the Market in Dali, Yunnan:

Join us as we visit San Yue Jie, a street just outside Dali’s old town that transforms into a market every week. The street itself is named after the 3rd month of the lunar calendar, which holds the biggest festival of the year for the local Bai minority people – and the weekly market is the best place to experience their local life and culture.

Take a look as we see the sights, buy a basket backpack, visit a Chinese herb vendor, chew some fresh sugar cane, watch walnut oil being made, and eat some rice noodles – Yunnan’s most popular dish!

The Host: Brian is co-founder of Lost Plate, along with his wife Ruixi and sister Michelle. He currently resides in Dali after spending 8 years bouncing between Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, and Cambodia. He spends his time hiking Cangshan mountain just above Dali, finding Dali’s best craft beer, and running along Erhai lake.

If you’d like to come experience all of this your own, come join us! We run regular food-focused trips in Dali and throughout Yunnan province and China. Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel to see more!
